The Unity of Learning and Practice
Aichi Gakuin University is founded on the spirit of Buddhism, in particular Zen Buddhism, which lays stress on "the unity of learning and practice". Guided by this spirit, the University aims at cultivating in students a sense of gratitude, thus enabling them to contribute to their society, and to human welfare and culture. The history of mankind is extremely complex. In this complex social environment, correct and objective judgements will be based on well established individual identities.
Where learning is detached from the formation of personality, the development of a strong individual identity is impossible. Learning, therefore, must both deepen knowledge and test this knowledge in the actual struggles of human existence. The exploration and discovery of knowledge is for us synonymous with the exploration and discovery of life, and likewise the penetration of existence is the same as the penetration of knowledge. The quest for the unity of learning and practice lies at the heart of the founding spirit of Aichi Gakuin University.
