1. Naming is NOT describing.

2. Describe ONE SPECIFIC person, place, or thing.

3. Anything that is not description should not be in the body of a Descriptive Essay. But it might fit well in the Introduction or the Conclusion.

4. Location of a person or thing is irrelevant to its description. Location can change. It may, however, be relevant to the description of a place.

5. Use descriptive words and phrases (ie. like adjectives), words that describe what you observe directly

and then what you can conclude about personality and attitude.

6. Use grouping and ordering.

7. Use paragraph form. A short essay should have three to seven paragraphs. The first should be an introduction and the last one a conclusion.
